Easy Ways to Find the Right Anniversary Gift
December 15th, 2008 | by guest |Whether you need to buy a gift for your significant other or you’re purchasing for a special couple in your life, finding the right anniversary gift can sometimes be a hard task. Fortunately, there are some easy steps that you can take to find just the right gift.
The reason buying anniversary presents is often a problem is because people procrastinate and then scramble to find a gift. Planning ahead is the key to finding the right anniversary gift. Since anniversaries happen on the same day each year, planning ahead should be easy!
When it comes to anniversaries, most people are familiar with the traditional year by year guide for gifts. For example, on 25th wedding anniversaries silver is an appropriate gift. Although most people know there are gifts for 1st, 5th, 10th and 50th anniversaries, there are also designated gifts for every date in between. For example, the 8th anniversary gift is linens or lace. 18th anniversary gifts are supposed to be made of porcelain.
Although these lists aren’t always used, they can be a great jumping off point for your anniversary gift ideas. For example, if the couple you are buying for is having their 1st anniversary (paper) you could give them a set of personalized note cards and stationary. For a 31st anniversary (timepieces) you could get a nice desk clock for the couple.
When you’re purchasing for a couple, you can base your gift off of these lists or pick something that suits the couple. You should select a gift that they can enjoy together, such as movie tickets or a certificate for a dinner for two at a fancy restaurant. If you want to go the do-it-yourself route, you can create a themed gift basket that that the couple can enjoy. You can create a gift basket of wine, gourmet pasta and specialty pasta sauce so they can enjoy a romantic night in. You can create a movie themed basket with a few romantic DVDs, some microwave popcorn and a bag of chocolate candy.
If you’re buying for your spouse, you may want to personalize the gift a little more. A few months before the anniversary date, start digging around for clues. Nonchalantly ask your spouse his or her opinion on a variety of different present ideas. Start taking notice of what he or she wants. Write down several ideas and then keep revising the list as you get closer to the date.
Take special care to make sure your spouse doesn’t find out about his or her gift. Buy with cash instead of your credit card so that your spouse can’t see where you’re purchasing from. If you’re ordering online, have the gift delivered to your work or to a friend’s house. This way your spouse won’t accidently open the package. Once you receive the gift, take special steps to hide the gift in a secure place. This way you won’t ruin the surprise of you special anniversary gift!
